If you have pancreatic cancer in your family, or a pancreatic cyst, screening may help to protect you.

Do you have a first degree relative (parent, sibling, or child) who had pancreatic cancer?
Or, do you have other risk factors including a BRCA mutation* or a pancreatic cyst?

Most doctors recommend that adults at higher risk due to family history or the presence of associated conditions, receive screening that may help to protect them against this disease.

How does screening offer the possibility of protection?

Screening for still harmless but precancerous cells has been shown to be
the most effective way to prevent any cancer.

In the 1950’s cervical cancer was the largest cause of cancer death in
American women. By the 1970s, it had dropped from 1st place to 14th and remains rare today. This remarkable change resulted from using screening cytology (the Pap smear) to sample the cervix for still harmless but precancerous cells. Screening for and removing precancerous polyps is now having the same effect on colon cancer. The Pap smear and colonoscopy have shown that if precancerous cells are detected and removed, cancer can be stopped before it can even start. LINFU® brings this proven screening principle to the pancreas, which is why it has been called “The Pap Smear for the Pancreas”™.

LINFU is a gentle, low-intensity, ultrasound technology designed to help release pancreatic cells which the gastroenterologist can then collect for analysis using a standard upper endoscopy.
What can I expect during screening?

In addition to pancreatic imaging which can help to detect abnormalities that are larger than approximately one centimeter, you will also receive LINFU to help detect smaller and earlier abnormalities.

Low intensity ultrasound is painlessly applied to your abdomen for about 15 minutes. This helps loosen pancreatic cells so more can be collected naturally.

The gastroenterologist then performs a routine upper endoscopy to collect a sample of pancreatic fluid.

The fluid is examined under the
microscope by expert cytopathologists
to look for early cell changes.
